Hilda, I like this girl. I spent the last week with her on my wall at the Northumbria Community. I came to like Hilda looking over me, saying Hi. A strong leader, but with a look of gentleness and certain beauty. Hilda was an Abbess who founded the community at Whitby. Known for her strength and leadership, wise counsel and search for reconciliation between people who would otherwise only see fault in each other. Her upheld hand welcomes, but also shows signs of hard work. I spent a week reading and writing. Ordering my thoughts on community life and all the while living with the cycle of prayer and food sharing which happens here. Back home now for a few days and then I'm off again after lunch on Sunday : ) |
